Undergraduate Computational Biology Major Polina Goldberg Selected as Class of 2026 Salutatorian

May 13, 2026

Congratulations to graduating senior Polina Goldberg on being selected as the Class of 2026 Salutatorian!

Goldberg is a Computational Biology major, with a double minor in Science and Society and Statistics. The Computational Biology major is new to the Biological sciences department, where she conducted research with Dr. John Hunt. In the Hunt lab, she used machine learning to improve Cryo-EM protein reconstruction outcomes. She has also conducted research with Dr. Daniel Westervelt at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, leveraging statistical methods to study the impact of New York’s congestion pricing policy on air pollution.

Goldberg was selected, along with Valedictorian Joseph Karaganis, by the faculty Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes (COHAP). Their selection was “based on the strength, breadth, depth and rigor of their academic achievements, as well as their intellectual promise, character and achievement outside the classroom.”

We're delighted to celebrate their success, and encourage you to read the full story here.
