Originally from central New Jersey, I attended Binghamton University in upstate New York for my undergraduate degree. During my time in Binghamton, I majored in Cell and Molecular Biology and minored in Biological Anthropology. My undergraduate research focused on bacterial biofilm dispersion in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Specifically, my lab looked at the signal transduction mechanism involved in the reception a dispersion-inducing signaling molecule, as well as the genes involved in the dispersion response.
For my graduate studies, I plan on continuing to research signaling mechanisms and signal transduction in cellular systems. I’m interested in how environmental cues modify behavior and play a role in altering cellular phenotype. While I would still enjoy using bacteria as a model organism to study, I am also considering studying eukaryotic systems. During my time at Columbia, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of these complex mechanisms and means of regulation.
