Scientist or Software Engineer in data integration, simulation, and visualization for whole-cell modeling @ Mount Sinai in NYC
To better understand how genotype determines phenotype, we are developing comprehensive whole-cell computational models which aim to represent all of the biochemical activity inside cells. Our research is innovative, interdisciplinary – involving systems biology, genomics, simulation, and software engineering, and team-oriented. We are seeking talented, ambitious individuals to join our team and help us develop tools for building, simulating, and analyzing comprehensive models of individual cells.

We are a member of the new NIH-funded Center for Reproducible Biomedical Modeling (http://reproduciblebiomodels.org) which aims to enable more predictive models of cells. The center includes Herbert Sauro and John Gennari at the University of Washington, Ion Moraru and Michael Blinov at the University of Connecticut Health Center, and David Nickerson at the University of Auckland.

  From Jeremy Lieberman: I am a former Energy sector investment banker and Columbia alum (CC ’08 and GSAS ’13 grad) turned farming entrepreneur seeking a paid consultant (PhD, PostDoc, or Professor) to help with development and founding of a farming company using the holistic management farming method (organic and biodynamic). We seek computational biologists and environmental engineers with demonstrated research background in plant science, soil N & C cycles, soil microbiology, animal husbandry and/or anything related to agricultural engineering and farming informatics. The project scope is to work with myself, and a small team of holistic management farmers and scientists to develop a technology concept that undergirds the company. Research Associate, Biotechnology

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., a leading mid-tier investment bank, is currently seeking an equity research associate to support our Biotechnology franchise. The position is located in New York City.

Ideal candidates possess 1-2 years of equity research or related experience, and a passion for the biotechnology and healthcare spaces. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated financial modeling skills and prior work experience in an equity research, investment banking, or consulting role in the life sciences sector. An advanced degree in a scientific field (Ph.D., M.D., or similar), as well as strong analytical skills, impeccable attention to detail, a strong work ethic, the ability to multi-task, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidates who have completed the Series 7, 63, 86, 87 examinations are preferred, but exceptional candidates without licenses will also be considered.

The research associate will work in conjunction with and support a senior analyst on all aspects of developing the biotech equity research product. Key responsibilities for this position at the start include: building and maintaining company financial models and detailed therapeutics market models; preparing company-specific and industry-wide research reports and presentations; collecting, analyzing and interpreting information from a range of data sources, including scientific literature, medical conferences, physician and other consultant interviews; and maintaining databases (prescriptions tracker, company catalysts, published notes, etc.).

In general, at Oppenheimer, we look for people who possess, or have the potential to possess, the following characteristics:

  • Strong writing and analytical skills. Associates are responsible for writing and producing equity research reports, company initiations, and marketing presentations—often under very tight time constraints
  • Strong financial modeling, accounting, valuation, and quantitative skills. Associates are responsible for building and maintaining integrated I/S, B/S, and C/F models and for organizing and maintaining industry data. Attention to detail is critical
  • A passion for the stock market, and equity research. It is highly advantageous to have exposure to the financial markets and equity research, as well as the day-to-day responsibilities of an equity research associate
  • Strong sales and communication skills. As time progresses, associates will interact with internal sales and trading and external clients. Responsiveness and professionalism is important
  • Initiative. An ability to take risks and think outside the box; an ability to handle high-pressure situations; and a strong work ethic

Healthcare Research Internship (Spring Term)

RTW Investments is seeking interns interested in performing deep scientific due diligence aimed at uncovering diseases amenable to therapeutic intervention and drug development.  This work will be conducted in the context of generating an internal disease data repository.

All candidates must have a background in life sciences.  The ideal intern is an PhD, MD, MD/PhD candidate or graduate with a background in molecular/chemical biology, biochemistry, or genetics.  MA/MS/BA/BS students who have extensive academic research experience will also be considered.

Interns are expected to spend 15-30 hours per week (1 full day at the office at a minimum).  This internship is expected to start in early January and will last approximately 3 months.

TITLE: Research Staff Assistant

Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute

Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the candidate assists with ongoing experiments using genetic and behavioral approaches in a mouse behavioral laboratory.  We seek a highly motivated individual who is enthusiastic about a career in science.  This position is funded by a 1-year collaborative pilot grant to investigate neuronal development and function important during feeding behavior. Position may be extended provided additional funding is secured.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Works in close collaboration with the Principal Investigator and lab staff. The Research Staff Assistant provides support performing surgeries, behavioral tasks, and histology.

Performs stereotaxic surgery; perfusion and dissection of developing and adult tissues, tissue sectioning, and histology; confocal microscopy.

Conducts behavioral tasks, including naturalistic behaviors and operant conditioning, combined with imaging and optogenetic manipulations in transgenic mice.

Performs other assignments deemed necessary by the Principal Investigator, including general lab duties such as making solutions, helping with genotyping, etc.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelors degree in neuroscience, biology, or other related science is required. A minimum of 3 years of related lab experience is a must. Masters preferred, some experience with stereotaxic surgery and rodent behavior preferred. The ideal candidate must possess sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.
